As part of the Nexus Track Dualling Scheme, PACE Infrastructure Solutions Ltd was engaged to deliver key platform alterations at Jarrow Station. This essential civils package supports the track dualling scheme that increased service frequency, cut journey times and improve reliability on the Tyne and Wear Metro, ensuring the route is future-proofed for enhanced capacity and operational resilience.
PACE was appointed to carry out essential platform refurbishment works at Jarrow Station to accommodate new track geometry and overhead line equipment (OLE) levels as part of the Nexus Track Dualling Scheme. Our works included resurfacing the platform, realigning copers, upgrading tactile paving, and delivering key remedial interventions. These included reinstating platform edges, enhancing anti-trespass measures, and increasing future cable management capacity through new service chambers — all designed to meet enhanced gauging and operational standards
Initially brought in to supplement the project team after another civils contractor was unable to meet an accelerated delivery programme, PACE rapidly mobilised and took ownership of the Jarrow scope. Despite joining the project at a later stage, our team delivered Jarrow Station as the first completed site of the three-station programme. This was achieved through close coordination with stakeholders, efficient scaling of resources, and a solutions-led mindset — demonstrating PACE’s ability to deliver quality outcomes safely, at pace, and under pressure.
PACE completed the Jarrow platform civils works to a high standard, aligned with project goals and technical requirements. The team’s proactive approach and attention to detail supported the successful progression of the wider Nexus track dualling programme, reaffirming PACE’s expertise in delivering precision civils within active rail environments.
