MILTON COURT EARTHWORKS
Client: Network Rail (Thameslink Programme)
Location: London
Overview
PACE Infrastructure Solutions Ltd was appointed to deliver a design and build solution as part of
the
Thameslink Programme, focused on reinstating boundaries between London Underground (LUL) and Network Rail
(NR) land. The project involved a wide range of civil engineering activities aimed at enhancing asset
separation, safety, and long-term resilience, while contributing to the programme’s broader goals of
operational efficiency and sustainability.
Our Scope
PACE’s works included:
- Construction of a new compound
- Bank stabilisation works
- Upgrades to existing trough routes
- Installation of new hardstanding areas
- New boundary fencing between LUL and NR assets
- Removal and environmentally responsible disposal of 800 tons of Type 1 material
- All works were delivered under a full design and build model, with PACE taking ownership of planning,
engineering, and delivery.
Technical Approach
PACE applied a value-engineering mindset throughout the project, focusing on:
-
Efficient design and construction: Integrating safety, durability, and long-term maintainability
- Sustainability and cost-effectiveness: Reuse of materials where feasible and removal of redundant
materials to reduce environmental impact
- Proactive planning: Ensuring safe execution of bank stabilisation and complex multi-element civil works in
a constrained urban rail environment
- Client collaboration: Close engagement with the client to align priorities around time, cost, and safety
Outcome
PACE successfully completed the works within the project timeline and budget, delivering a number of key
benefits:
- Customer satisfaction through efficient delivery and strong communication
- Cost savings via effective value engineering and recycled material use
- Enhanced environmental responsibility by removing 800 tons of waste material
- Positive project legacy, setting a benchmark for future boundary reinstatement schemes within the
Thameslink Programme
- This project exemplified PACE’s ability to integrate sustainability, safety, and value into complex
railway infrastructure works.
