North Wall London Bridge (Thameslink Remedial works)

Value: £500k

Date: November –January 2020/21

PACE was commissioned to design and construct a customized cable management system aimed at alleviating congestion in the approach to London Bridge station. The project faced challenges stemming from previous CP5 initiatives that had densely populated the cess area with various signalling and power cables, posing significant safety risks due to the absence of a secure walking route and refuges. Maintaining and accessing cables in this environment was unsafe and challenging for maintenance personnel. To address these issues, PACE collaborated closely with the client and key stakeholders, proposing a tailored solution: a cable management system featuring engineered brackets affixed to the bridge trackside, allowing the route to be mounted atop the wall. Overcoming this specific challenge, PACE partnered with an international supplier based in Germany to deliver the bespoke solution, which received approval from Network Rail. This innovative system not only enhanced safety but also increased cable capacity in the congested area. The project's success was contingent on extremely tight timescales, as the only suitable possession window was a New Year's Eve blockade. PACE efficiently managed the rapid turnaround and procurement, meeting the project milestone and showcasing its ability to deliver effective solutions within stringent time constraints. In addition to achieving the immediate goal of implementing a cable management system, PACE's collaboration with an international supplier and its commitment to safety demonstrated its proficiency in problem-solving and innovative thinking. The successful completion of this project reinforced PACE's reputation as a reliable partner capable of addressing complex challenges and delivering solutions that enhance safety and operational efficiency.
