Watford Tunnel Brickwork Repairs

Value: £290k

Date: May – August 2022

PACE was engaged to conduct essential brickwork repair works within the Watford slow tunnels as part of an Overhead Line Equipment (OHLE) renewals project. The client had identified defective brickwork in areas where new OHLE brackets were to be installed, prompting a halt in the main contract work. PACE took on the responsibility of developing both temporary and permanent solutions for the re-casing, pinning and grouting works required to address the defective areas within the Victorian tunnel. Handling both the design and construction aspects of the project, PACE utilized engineering excellence to devise temporary works solutions. These included a traditional re-casing approach and a unique, custom re-alignment solution that optimized brick face working time within the limited possession access available. PACE's experienced bricklayers, grouters, and skilled operatives then executed the remedial works in accordance with the design. The efficiency of these solutions allowed all works to be completed within the specified timeline, enabling the main OHLE works to resume once all affected areas were repaired and secured. In addition to meeting the immediate needs of brickwork repair, PACE's involvement demonstrated a commitment to problem-solving and innovation. The successful delivery of the project underscored PACE's ability to seamlessly integrate design and construction elements, ensuring the timely completion of critical works within the constraints of the project schedule. The collaboration between PACE and the client showcased the company's capability to address complex challenges and contribute to the overall success of the OHLE renewals project.
