Client: Network Rail (via OHLE Renewals Programme)
Location: Watford Slow Tunnels, Hertfordshire
As part of the Overhead Line Equipment (OHLE) Renewals Programme, PACE Infrastructure Solutions Ltd was appointed to deliver essential remedial works within the Watford slow tunnels. Defective Victorian-era brickwork had been identified at critical locations earmarked for new OHLE bracket installations—necessitating a pause in the main contract works. PACE was tasked with developing and executing both temporary and permanent engineering solutions to safely address these defects and allow the primary OHLE works to resume without delay.
PACE’s comprehensive delivery included:
PACE’s engineering team devised a dual-solution strategy, combining traditional re-casing with a bespoke realignment method that reduced brick face working time—crucial given the limited possession access. Design and construction were closely coordinated to meet safety and performance standards, with works executed in strict compliance with the approved temporary works designs.
All brickwork repairs were completed within the project timeline, enabling the suspended OHLE works to resume safely and without further delay. PACE’s integrated design and construction approach ensured high-quality outcomes and demonstrated its ability to solve complex challenges under operational and time-sensitive conditions. This project reinforced PACE’s reputation for delivering engineering-led solutions within heritage infrastructure environments.
